A man who scared his mother so much through his aggression that she “wet herself” has had sentencing deferred to see if he can engage with probation and community service.
The deputy district judge told the 23-year-old: “If you co-operate with probation and work with community service and most importantly there have been no issues with your mother then I will deal with you in a way that you are not going to jail.”
Kyle Elliott, of Glenhull Walk in Omagh, pleaded guilty to common assault, breaching a restraining order, possession of a bladed article in a public place and harassment at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
Prosecution outlined that on December 26, at 3.45pm, police were contacted by the injured party with regards her son, the defendant.
She stated that Elliott had asked her for money in order to buy drugs and when she refused he became aggressive towards her.
The injured party claimed this abuse went on for an hour with the defendant getting up in her face, shouting phrases such as “this f****** house” and “I hate you”.
Elliot then went to the bathroom, before exiting and shouting: “Where are the bloody towels?”
His mother handed him one, at which point his brother stepped in and told him to leave their mother alone.
The defendant then stood in front of his mother to block her path, she fell to her knees and began to cry at the treatment.
Elliot proceeded to lift a razor blade head and threatened to harm himself. His mother attempted to call police but her phone was snatched by the defendant.
Prosecution stated that the incident had caused so much fear to the injured party that she “wet herself”.
The defendant left the property but was apprehended by officers close to the police station on Mahon Road.
Elliott’s mother also alleged to have received multiple calls and messages from the defendant during the month of November, on one date it was heard that the defendant made a total of 120 calls to the injured party.
During interview, Elliot denied all of the allegations which were made against him.
Court heard that in the weeks prior to this offending, the defendant had been made subject to both a probation and a community service order.
Deputy District Judge Chris Holmes stated: “Mr Elliott, you are now on probation and you are now on community service. This is a horrendous offence in which you scared your own mother so much she wet herself.
“I am going to defer sentencing for one year. If you co-operate with probation and work with community service and most importantly there have been no issues with your mother then I will deal with you in a way that you are not going to jail.”
Sentencing in the case was adjourned until March 4, of next year.
