Work to start on major resurfacing scheme at Charlemont

An overnight road closure will be in place during the course of a £400,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme at Charlemont.

Work is due to start next Monday, July 26.

The improvement work will extend approximately 800 metres from the Blackwater River bridge to its junction with Old Bog Road, 175 metres along Collegelands Road from its junction with Main Street and all of Church View estate.

Infrastructure Minister Nichola Mallon said: “This significant investment will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of this section of the road network in to the benefit of all who use it.

“I would like to thank local residents and businesses in Charlemont in advance for their cooperation and ask that they comply with all temporary traffic restrictions while these much needed works are completed.”

To facilitate the works, it will be necessary to implement temporary traffic signals between the hours of 9.30am and 4.30pm from Monday July 26 until Friday, August 13 (Monday to Friday only).

Following this an overnight road closure will be in place from 8pm until 6am each evening from Monday, August 16 until Thursday, August 26.

The road will be open throughout the day and at weekends.

During periods of closure a diversion will operate as follows:

South Bound Traffic (towards Armagh) via – A29 Charlemont Street, Moy, B106 Killyman Street, Moy, B106 Trewmount Road, B106 Derrygally Road, B106 Bovean Road, B34/B131 Tamnamore Road, B131 Blackisland Road, B131 Derrycoose Road, B131 Teagy Road, B131 Grange Road, B77 Red Lion Road, B77 Main Street, Loughgall, B77 Ballygasey Road, B77 Loughgall Road and A29 Moy Road.

Local access for residents and emergency services will be maintained at all times.

The Department has carefully planned these road works and associated traffic management arrangements in order to minimise inconvenience to the public. Road users are advised to allow extra time for their journey and to follow the alternative routes which will be clearly signed on the approaches to the closure.

Completion of the work by August 26 is dependent on favourable weather conditions.

The Department says it will keep the public informed of any change. All work will be carried out in line with current public health and health and safety advice, with safe systems of working in place for staff and contractors.
