A charity golf day held by family-owned vehicle retailer the Donnelly Group has raised £6,060 for a mental health charity.

The money will be donated to the Dungannon company’s charity partner, Aware NI, which aims to support the mental health of local people through online and offline support groups.

The event was held at Concra Wood Golf & Country Club, Co Monaghan, and saw 124 golfers taking part throughout the day.

Roisin Donnelly, a spokesperson for Donnelly Group Foundation, said the charity had been chosen by employees across its nine sites for the work it does supporting and promoting mental health.

“The last 18 months have been particularly difficult for those struggling with mental health, so we are committed to raising vital funds for Aware NI and are grateful for the generosity of our staff and customers to date,” she said.

Prizes for the winners included four-ball games at Belvoir, Bushfoot, Castlerock, Dungannon and Edenmore Golf Clubs as well as an overnight stay in the Lough Erne Resort and Jaguar Land Rover merchandise.

Clare Galbraith, head of fundraising at Aware NI, which is this year celebrating its 25th anniversary, said: “With the ongoing Covid restrictions over the last year, people have felt more isolated than ever, so the latest fundraising efforts by Donnelly Group will go a long way in supporting those in need in our community.”

Aware NI is the only charity in Northern Ireland working exclusively for people with depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder. They have an established network of 23 support groups rural and urban areas across Northern Ireland.

It also delivers mental health awareness courses to schools, workplaces, community groups and hospitals.
