Council calls on Christmas shoppers to support small businesses “in their time of need”

Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, Councillor Córa Corry

Mid Ulster District Council is once again encouraging residents to give a big thank you to local businesses by stepping out on this year’s Small Business on Saturday December 3, to support local businesses in their time of need, and show how much we love local traders.

Part of a national campaign Small Business Saturday aims to encourage people to support local traders and businesses by looking at what’s on their doorsteps before opting to travel to major towns and cities or go online.

Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, Councillor Córa Corry supporting Small Business Saturday this year said; “The spotlight that the campaign brings in celebrating small businesses and encouraging people to shop locally and support small firms in their communities is more vital than ever now. In Mid Ulster, we’re extremely lucky to have a wide range of high-quality, locally owned, independent retailers and businesses.

Small Business Saturday reminds us all to ‘shop local’ and support the fantastic independent shops and businesses that connect our communities.”

Small Business Saturday also marks the start of a number of initiatives by Mid Ulster District Council to encourage shoppers to visit the town centres in Cookstown, Dungannon, Magherafelt, Maghera and Coalisland.

There’ll be lots of entertainment to make your town centre shopping go with a swing including street theatre, and Christmas carols and music, all happening between 12pm – 3pm each Saturday from 26 November to 17 December in each of the five town centres.
