Dungannon man who cultivated cannabis in ‘pretty amateur operation’ at risk of prison sentence

Armagh Magistrates Court

A Dungannon man who cultivated cannabis has been warned to co-operate with probation or risk going to prison.

The 28-year-old’s barrister told court that previous engagement with the probation service had “not gone well”.

Dominic Patrick McSorley, of Drumcoo Green, had a plea of guilty indicated to cultivating cannabis at Armagh Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

Defence barrister Michael Forde stated: “There is reference to three seedlings…this was a pretty amateur operation, and whilst he does have a poor record there is only one entry for possession of Class B.”

He added that McSorley had a “very difficult childhood” and previous engagement with the probation service had “not gone well”.

However, District Judge Alan White stated: “The last entry in his record is for simple possession for which he got a suspended sentence on appeal.

“It is really up to him. I am going to order a report. He really needs to co-operate or else he will be going to prison.”

The case was adjourned until June 1 for sentencing.
